Western Trial Lawyers Association Code of Conduct

WTLA is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and harassment-free experience for all participants at every event. This includes the following: CLE travel seminars, receptions, meetings and gatherings associated with WTLA. Participants include all attendees, sponsors, guests, speakers and volunteers. All participants are welcome, regardless of race, color, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic origin, religious beliefs, disability, physical appearance, body size, or dietary practice.

All participants are expected to treat each other with respect, not disparage any other attendee or competitor, and to dress professionally at all times.

WTLA will not tolerate harassment in any form; this includes aggressive selling or marketing at events, and any sexual language and/or imagery not appropriate for any part of the event. Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Verbal comments intended to humiliate or belittle
  • Sexual images in public spaces
  • Deliberate intimidation
  • Stalking
  • Following
  • Harassing photography or recording
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Unwelcome attention

At WTLA events, including receptions, where both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are served, participants and staff who choose to drink alcoholic beverages are expected to drink responsibly. WTLA and convention, hotel or venue event staff have the right to deny service to attendees for any reason and may require an attendee to leave the event.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event and/or the association. Anyone being harassed, or noticing that someone else is being harassed, or having any other concerns, should please contact a member of event or hotel staff immediately.

Sponsors further agree not to schedule a private (non-WTLA sponsored) event at any travel seminar without WTLA’s prior approval, and under no circumstances will schedule any gathering that conflicts with an WTLA sponsored MCLE program, reception or dinner, or other event that is part of the official seminar program.

Attendees agree to ensure that their guest(s) only attend conference-related functions for which they have paid the “guest” registration.

Western Trial Lawyers Association reserves the right to, in its sole discretion, refuse entrance to the event or remove any individual from the event whose behavior is disruptive or is not consistent with the character and purpose of the event. All Western Trial Lawyers Association badges are the property of WTLA and must be returned upon request.
