President’s Message

Eric Fong president's message

A few years back, I was asked to serve on WTLA’s Board. While I was honored, I can’t say I was enthusiastic about it. I’m protective of my time. But something about this organization nudged me toward saying yes.

Deep down, I knew what WTLA was really about: helping lawyers become better at what they do while genuinely enjoying the journey. At the end of the day, isn’t that what life is about? To me, WTLA has found that rare balance—the holy grail of work and life—where you can be productive, continue growing, and actually have fun doing it.

The people who make up this organization don’t fit the mold I’ve often seen in our profession. There’s an ease, a generosity, and a genuine kindness that permeate everything we do. Our meetings aren’t filled with big egos, endless talk of accomplishments, or dreams of grandeur. Instead, there’s a quiet confidence rooted in the understanding that we’re all in this together. We’re all trying to become better lawyers, support one another, and succeed with the belief that what’s good for one of us is good for all of us.

There aren’t many organizations—legal or otherwise—where people are so genuinely invested in helping each other succeed. That’s what makes WTLA so special.

Our next gathering will be in beautiful Deer Valley, Utah, March 17–21, 2027. Whether you’re an avid skier or simply looking for an incredible place to connect, learn, and recharge, Deer Valley is truly magical. While it’s known for its luxury and world-class setting, we’ve secured exceptional group rates that reflect our down-to-earth approach.

As always, our faculty will feature outstanding speakers from across the country covering a wide range of topics. From trial skills to practical strategies for avoiding legal pitfalls, every session is designed to provide meaningful value. Whether you’re in your first year of practice or have decades of experience, you’ll leave inspired, challenged, and eager to keep learning.

I am honored to be part of this organization and grateful for the opportunity to serve as its President. I sincerely hope you’ll join us in Deer Valley this March. I think you’ll leave with new ideas, new friendships, and a renewed appreciation for what makes this profession so rewarding.

I look forward to seeing you there.
